CNC Thread Milling at John Prosock Machine, Inc.

John Prosock Machine, Inc. produces precision threads with accurate location using advanced CNC milling centers. By utilizing CNC technology, we have the ability to consistently achieve the same start point for the thread, so that connection tees fit into the threaded holes at the same location every time. Thread milling provides John Prosock Machine complete control over the quality of the threads with a reliable, high-speed performance, precision machining process.

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines function through automation programmed by software, such as macros, to reduce setup time, create clean cuts, enhance the precision of the process, and eliminate errors that can result from manual calculations. John Prosock’s expert machinists are skilled in the latest software for CNC milling machinery. In minutes they can enter the type of thread, diameter, depth, and group of work materials to be cut. Once programmed, the software automatically generates the machine code, recommends the best cutter for the job, and selects the optimum cutting parameters. In just one operation John Prosock Machine’s thread milling forms both the hole and the thread, which streamlines the process to meet quality requirements and customers’ deadlines.

Features of John Prosock Machine’s
CNC Thread milling includes:

  • Threads can be placed closer to the bottom of a blind hole
  • Leaves room for chips to fall away
  • Left- or right-handed threads can be programmed
  • High cutting speeds and feed rates for efficient cycle times
  • A single tool can give the same pitch to a range of hole diameters

Maximum flexibility with a small inventory of tools. A variety of holes can be machined and a wide range of pitches can be fabricated by simply programming the milling machine to run at a specific cutting diameter. John Prosock Machine offers a wide variety of hole-making operations. Tools can drill the hole, chamfer the hole, machine the thread, and cut away the incomplete portion at the bottom.

Tapping vs. Thread Milling
The two means of making a threaded hole are tapping and thread milling. Tapping is an older technique, and has primarily been used to make threads in small holes. However, as technology improves it is possible to threadmill smaller and smaller holes. When compared to tapping, thread milling produces far superior threads.
